Bio

Born in 1923, Don was part of the Greatest Generation—a young man shaped by hardship, responsibility, and a deep sense of duty. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy, answering the call during a time when the world needed men of courage and conviction.

After returning home, Don married Doris Woodhouse, the love of his life. Together they raised three children—Linda, Bruce, and Margie—and built a family rooted in love, faith, and resilience. Over the years, Don was blessed with six grandchildren and ten great‑grandchildren, each one a source of joy and pride.

Don and Doris also endured one of life’s most painful trials: the loss of a child. It is a sorrow no parent should ever have to bear. Don’s poem titled Bruce.” reflects both the depth of that grief and the strength of his faith.

Don’s Christian faith guided every part of his life. It shaped his character, his decisions, and the way he treated others. He lived his beliefs quietly and consistently, demonstrating kindness, humility, and integrity in his daily interactions. To many, he was the very definition of what a man is supposed to be—a steady presence, a moral compass, and a tremendous role model.

For years, Don would mention that he had written “a few poems.” He often jotted them down while working the midnight shift or during quiet moments on the job. His poetry carries a simple, honest theme: love—love of family, love of life, love of God, and love of the people whose paths crossed his.

These poems are shared here so that Don’s reflections, written in the quiet hours of an ordinary life, may continue to touch hearts and bring comfort, joy, and understanding to others.
